Are you not in a family? The only true individualist is abandoned at birth to be raised by wolves. Anything less, and you are a member of a collective, like it or not. In order to live with your family, you must abide by certain stupid rules with which you do not agree (though a certain amount of rebellion is expected). Your family is part of a greater extended family, among them often rich uncles that support others in times of need (why always an uncle and not your parents that are rich? Well, that's one of life's little mysteries, isn't it?). Centuries ago, your extended family would have been part of a much greater extended family: a tribe. Friction between groups of families from disparate backgrounds is obvious, but we all find common ground and achieve greater things through cooperation. Tribes formed coalitions to counter other tribes, and (sometimes socialist) nation-states were born.
Of course my argument is slightly flawed. Obviously, if you were raised by wolves, you'd be a member of a pack, itself a collective.
What I'm saying is that in the end, individualism is slightly more mature-sounding way to say, "fuck you, mom and dad!"
Once upon a time, this guy came to live with my cousin and I. Well, he didn't really live with us. It's more like he crashed out on our sofa one night and then proceeded to stay with us for about three months. We were watching this stupid OVA anime thing. I can't remember what it was called, but it had this girl in a school uniform with an M-16 rifle (for pros, this is like 2000). That was a big part of it. It involved her and a group of rag-tag idiots wandering around this city trying to get somewhere. This anime was 100% deus ex machina. Shit would happen, some dramatic over-animated miracle would save them, and the rag-tag bunch would win.
After the fourth or fifth miracle, dude flips the fuck out. I wish to hell I had (even the means to, 'cause this was '00) recorded what he said/did because it would have been a youtube sensation five years later. His act left everyone at first speechless and then laughing out loud to the point we had to pause the video and have a smoke break. It went something like this:
*OH, we are thirsty, name-kun, but we can't open this bottle. What do we do, name-kun? LET ME DO IT! Says a character from off-camera, and the camera pans to him. I AM THE BOTTLE OPENING MASTER. One of the important things to realize is that no matter how pro-government I might seem, that doesn't make me a believer in the ultimate form of collectivism. Communism can only work in the same fantasy in which anarchy can operate.
To assume that people are inherently good and "moral" is to assume that any system could work without any flaws: people with red hair shall be our unquestioned rulers! To declare that real-life examples of anarchy are not anarchy (e.g. Somalia) is the same empty argument given by communists: the USSR was not communist!
People need strong leaders otherwise they are easily subverted by people that appeal to their base instincts.

Someone just needs to keep hosting these. They aren't expensive to run, but without ads they are run out of generosity. They need to exist, and there needs to be an entry path for new users. Most users will eventually leave, so without an incoming flow of users there will eventually be no one left. There are many mainstream sites that allow users to communicate with short or long text based posts. But few of them offer anonymity. Pseudonyms are still used. I wonder if these sites are so much more popular because people don't know anonymous alternatives exist, or if people are attracted to handles by their narcissism.
