I don't know why, but I always have this feeling that I'm just not sufficiently patriotic in regards to my generation. Maybe I was just a weird kid, but I wasn't a fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Some villains were vaguely interesting, but the Turtles themselves were lame and I never had any of the toys. I did go see the movie in 1989 or whatever with my cousins who were deep into it. If I saw the second one, I don't remember it, though I do remember that that it had a tie-in Vanilla Ice song. The third movie was only brought to my attention recently because of all of youtube talking about how it sucks in anticipation of the new one.

The part that kind of gets me is that there are certain people my age who feel obligated to see this movie because of some brand loyalty they had as a child. Or worse, because they want payback for that third movie. It's like they were left with a sour taste in their mouths for a franchise for which they were probably too old for by that time anyway. Will they be old enough now to appreciate that it was made for dumb kids? I doubt it.

Also, there's always that fear that nothing new is being made. We just keep repeating ourselves. Is a year with three Spider Man 2s a sign of the apocalypse? The safe bet for making movies anymore seems to have a relation to the number of toys it sold. So I guess I'm eagerly anticipating the Speak & Spell movie.
