Chances are you're between 18-25 years old and therefore you've been raised to believe that your opinions are important (if you're older, that's sad as shit; why are you reading this? get a job!). Before you were ever allowed online by your doting parents, you were likely coddled and otherwise medicated into believing that you could go out and be anything you wanted to be and that you were important and unconditionally loved. Once online, every site appears to want your comments, to know what you think, and your opinion. It seems satisfying, doesn't it? All of these automated online things demand attention from you and it seems through your actions that you can enact change in the world. Changes may happen, but are they at your suggestion? Are they even at the suggestions of many hundreds of like-minded users? Chances are, the decision makers never even consult the suggestion box…
The worst thing that has happened to the world is that fucking 4chan of all things may be the first taste of reality that you spoiled little brats ever get to experience. On 4chan, your opinion is utterly meaningless and lost in a sea of many others. You are no one important and you will not achieve fame there unless you are exceptionally talented (or depraved). The moderators don't give a fuck about you or your feelings and enforce only the the most basic rules. If they gave a fuck about what you thought about some stupid insignificant shit, nothing would get accomplished and the place would get shut down. Welcome to a world that doesn't give a fuck about you or what you think and does you the favor of not even providing the illusion of a suggestion box. If you don't like something and say so, the response from the userbase is to do it more often and the mods don't care. You, as one person, have no control over 4chan.
This is what real life is like: full of assholes doing everything you hate all the time. You have no power or influence over it. Only a select ruling class has any power at all and even they get continually fucked with. That ruling class is subject to so many whiny-ass complaints and suggestions that they just ignore all of them. You may have noticed parallels with your government, university, or whatever but you should have seen this by now…
This is part of a series on philosophy.
