About SA: Who cares, really? Anymore it's just a sad hanger-on to its own past success. At this point, it is barely relevant. Presently, the user base is no longer as talented or outspoken as it once was. The best have moved on and the kids that took over are far from all right.
That or it was always stupid and I just didn't notice until 2006 or so. Actually, that's probably what happened. Never mind.
Though many things about SA have annoyed me over time, the one thing that I can never really get over is the moderation/administration. They delight in loudly and blatantly enforcing their own opinions and no one dares speak against them. The users themselves are equally guilty as they post merely to be seen and not because they have anything of value to add to the conversation. For all its posturing and attempts at claiming it is a rich "online community", in the end SA has been groomed into content-free mess by every interested party.

What's always struck me about conventions is that the hotel is full of anime people but there are also a few random people there on business. moot used 2chan but didn't "get" the culture was what I was aiming for. A lot of folks in #RH would just go there for sharing jerk-off pics, and one of the reasons why moot made 4chan was to get some porn. If you can get into the RH forums, you can see that he was in to some pretty gross stuff.
