pretty dead. thanks for asking!

3 Name: Anonymous : 2013-05-16 02:02 ID:Ht3bFVNE [Del]

More like it's dying but just refuses to kick the bucket. How much longer do you plan on hanging to life, w2ch?!

4 Name: Anonymous : 2013-05-16 02:43 ID:Heaven [Del]

w2ch is that grandparent you have that you're expecting to die soon, but they never actually do. You've accepted their fate and are pretty sad to see them go, but you're not going to cry.

You're not going to cry, but they won't die.

So, when the day finally comes that they die, you weren't expecting it. Their death takes a toll on you since it was such a blind-side hit. You end up crying and telling stories about your grandparent to your friends, about how they were awesome.

But when you really think about it, they weren't all that awesome.

You know, I have a dream of a BBS, just like 2ch, with just as many boards, and just as many frequent users. It would be paradise. But that will never happen :(

Anyone can set up this dream Unfortunately to get users, you need to sell it. Where do we start?

>Pew Research explains that teenagers departing the social network's blue confines are looking for something more... real. More authentic. Which, ironically, was the initial draw of Facebook...

IT DON'T GET MORE REAL THAN THIS, YO! *EXPLOSION* *PARKOUR MONTAGE* *YOUR BRAND NAME HERE*

Huh. Corporate culture has definitely undermined my understanding of the word real...

>Pew shows how Facebook has been slowly colonized by the very forces teens signed up to escape: watchful parents, too-old adults, and "drama" ... To contend with these annoying developments, teens aren't deleting their Facebook accounts; they're just using them less and less, spending more time on Twitter and Instagram, where conservations are limited to short-form text, links, and simple photos; or Tumblr, which emphasizes content over consolidated user profiles.

Did you spit coffee all over your desk when you read that? Because I spit coffee all over my desk when I read that...

So, if we look at tumblr and what it is, it's basically the itchy and unholy polyamorous marriage of everything: image board, twitter, and livejournal. I think I'm going to throw up a little... I'm not sure you can compete with the blob. It consumes all.

So, assuming that tumblr hasn't already swallowed the concept whole along with all others, how do you make 2ch for the west? Do you stress anonymity? 4chan does that already. No one uses its text boards though, because they're garbage (and it was w2ch users that suggested them in the first place and for that, I AM SO SORRY). They're too plain, too hidden, and just too clunky and old. It's time to rethink the concept....

I'm not sure what to say other than I think it may be time to take a deep breath and let go of what we believe in...

Maybe it shouldn't be so plain. Maybe it shouldn't be so organized. What it needs to thrive in the West is to be less Japanese...

No one said it had to be original content...

I hate to say this, but maybe it needs to be a damn mess. Like tumblr... Maybe we allow users to stand out with an increased number of posting options and just see what happens. Except we allow this to happen all at once and form a huge ongoing conversation. Let there be light and color.....

It would be like Times Square and Shinjuku all in one enormous overwhelming experience. Nothing will be said, but do we really have anything to say to one another anymore?

I feel like the draw of 4chan is anonymity and simplicity. There's no liking, tagging, or anything. The idea of the text board isn't dead yet.

22 Name: Anonymous : 2013-05-23 00:06 ID:pyEbWOFQ [Del]

And you know that's exactly what I want. A never ending stream of words spoken by Anonymius users in a BBS format. Like Shinkukus and NYCs resident just all talking...

I think that anonymity and simplicity is a strong factor. But I think the biggest draw is that 4chan simply has a lot of traffic. The community is big enough that there are smaller, more niche communities to choose and join.

And because it's anonymous, you don't have to worry about not fitting in as much.

Yahoo bought tumblr, so assuming they buttfuck it by going after the porn, you have, as the man said, an opening.
